Applications are invited for admission from candidates holding M.A. degree from UGC recognized universities in South & Southeast Asian Studies, History, Political Science, International Relations and Economics, to the Ph.D. programme 2010 in the Department of South & Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta, 1, Reformatory Street, Kolkata-27. Candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs.100/- through a challan obtainable from any Calcutta University campus (cash counter). The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of two hours duration to be held in this Department on 4th May 2010 at 2pm. The list of successful candidates will be displayed in the Notice Board of the Department on 5th May 2010. The successful candidates will have to appear in an interview on 6th May 2010 . The list of successful candidates shall be put up on the notice Board of the Department on 8th May 2010. The allocation of supervisors will be on the basis of this interview (See CU website for the areas of research in the Department).

Those candidates who have already passed U.G.C / CSIR (JRF) Examinations / NET / SET / SLET /Teacher Fellowship /M.Phil or equivalent examinations need not appear at the written examination and can directly apply to appear at the interview.

Foreign students may apply, and their application shall be considered subject to their degree is found to be at par with the requirements of the University of Calcutta.
